Da Nang is home to many excellent Japanese restaurants, but sometimes you simply crave the comforting taste of homestyle Japanese cooking. If that’s the case, Issunboshi is a restaurant you should definitely visit.
While it may not be flashy, Issunboshi is well-loved by Japanese expats for serving familiar, comforting dishes that remind them of home. It’s the perfect place for a casual dinner after work or a relaxing meal when you’re dining alone.
On this visit, I ordered one of the restaurant’s classic dishes—Japanese Curry Rice.
Location
Issunboshi is located in An Thuong, one of Da Nang’s most popular neighborhoods for both tourists and expats.
The restaurant is conveniently close to My Khe Beach, making it easy to reach by Grab or taxi. The surrounding area is filled with Japanese restaurants, cafés, and hotels, making it a convenient stop for lunch or dinner during your stay in Da Nang.
It’s also a favorite among Japanese residents who are looking for authentic Japanese comfort food.
Exterior
The exterior of Issunboshi has the welcoming charm of a traditional Japanese diner.
Rather than an extravagant design, the restaurant features a simple entrance and a modest sign that create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Japanese signage adds a sense of familiarity, making it easy to recognize as a place where you can enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine.

Interior
Inside, the restaurant has a cozy and relaxed atmosphere that makes you feel at home.
The dining area mainly features table seating, making it suitable for solo diners as well as groups. Many Japanese customers visit regularly, which speaks to the restaurant’s popularity and authentic flavors.
The staff are friendly and attentive, and the comfortable atmosphere allows you to enjoy your meal at a leisurely pace. Dining here feels much like eating at a neighborhood restaurant back in Japan.

Food
Japanese Curry Rice
For this visit, I chose the Japanese Curry Rice.
As soon as it arrived, the comforting aroma of spices reminded me of homemade Japanese curry.
The first bite revealed a mild, well-balanced flavor that’s instantly familiar to anyone who has grown up in Japan. Unlike Indian-style curry, the sauce is smooth and mellow, with the rich flavors of vegetables and meat slowly simmered together to create a deep, satisfying taste.
The curry has the perfect consistency and pairs beautifully with the rice, making it difficult to stop eating once you begin.
The ingredients are carefully cooked until tender, allowing their natural sweetness and umami to blend into the sauce. While the presentation is simple, it’s exactly the kind of comforting meal you’ll find yourself wanting to enjoy again and again.
After several days of Vietnamese cuisine, this gentle, familiar flavor was especially satisfying. If you’re missing the taste of home, this is a dish I highly recommend.

Final Thoughts
Issunboshi is one of the best places in Da Nang to enjoy authentic Japanese homestyle cooking in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
The Japanese Curry Rice was comforting, flavorful, and wonderfully nostalgic. While it isn’t an elaborate dish, it delivers the familiar taste of a home-cooked Japanese meal that many expats and travelers will appreciate.
If you’re craving authentic Japanese comfort food during your stay in Da Nang, Issunboshi is definitely worth a visit.
