When people think of Da Nang, seafood and Vietnamese cuisine usually come to mind first. But during long trips abroad, there are times when you suddenly crave bold, comforting Asian flavors. That’s exactly how I ended up discovering Chin Meshi, a popular Chinese restaurant loved by both locals and expats. This time, I visited to try one of their signature dishes — authentic Mapo Tofu.
Location
Chin Meshi is conveniently located in central Da Nang, with easy access from both the My Khe Beach area and the Han River district. A Grab taxi ride usually takes around 10 minutes, making it an easy stop during your travels.
For expats living in the city, it’s also the kind of casual dinner spot you can comfortably visit after work.
Exterior
The restaurant is easy to spot thanks to its bright red signboard. While it blends naturally into Da Nang’s streetscape, the warm lighting at night creates an inviting atmosphere that instantly makes you feel like delicious food is waiting inside.
The exterior feels open and approachable, making it easy for travelers to step in without hesitation.

Interior
Inside, the restaurant is bright, clean, and spacious, with comfortable table seating throughout. While it’s perfectly suitable for solo diners, it’s also a great place for families and groups to enjoy lively meals together.
One of the most interesting parts of the atmosphere is the mix of people dining there — tourists, locals, and expats all sharing the same space. That international vibe adds even more charm to the experience.

Food
Mapo Tofu
The main reason for my visit was, of course, the Mapo Tofu.
From the very first bite, the aroma of Sichuan pepper spread across my mouth, delivering an authentic numbing spice and deep savory flavor. The tofu itself was silky smooth, perfectly coated in the rich and flavorful sauce.
It’s the kind of dish that immediately makes you want another bowl of rice. Despite the bold spice, the seasoning still feels balanced and approachable for Japanese tastes, with plenty of umami beneath the heat.
The dish is served piping hot, so anyone sensitive to heat should be careful at first. If you’re dining alone, the small size is usually more than enough.

Final thoughts
Whenever you start craving something richer and more intensely flavored after eating Vietnamese food for several days, Chin Meshi is an excellent option in Da Nang.
With authentic Chinese flavors, a relaxed atmosphere, and convenient access, it’s easy to understand why this restaurant has become popular among both travelers and local residents alike. If you’re visiting Da Nang and want a satisfying break from Vietnamese cuisine, this is definitely a place worth checking out.
