When living in Da Nang, one local dish that constantly comes up alongside pho and banh mi is Cơm gà (Vietnamese chicken rice). Among the many places serving it, Cơm gà Cô Hai Tam Kỳ is especially well known for its authentic Tam Ky-style chicken rice. Loved by both locals and travelers, this popular restaurant has built a strong reputation over the years. This time, I finally had the chance to visit and try it myself.
Location
Cơm gà Cô Hai Tam Kỳ is located about 15 minutes by taxi from central Da Nang. It’s also easily accessible from popular tourist spots like Han Market and Dragon Bridge, making it a convenient stop during sightseeing. Simply searching the restaurant name on Google Maps will take you directly there, so it’s easy to find even for first-time visitors.
Exterior
From outside the restaurant, you can immediately spot the glass display case filled with chicken and side dishes, creating the lively atmosphere typical of a local Vietnamese eatery. Around lunchtime, motorbikes line up tightly in front of the shop, making it obvious just how popular this place is among locals.
Interior
Inside, the restaurant has a casual and authentic local dining atmosphere. Plastic tables and chairs fill the space, giving it the familiar feel of a traditional Vietnamese eatery. Although there’s no air conditioning, several fans keep the space surprisingly comfortable. The restaurant is also relatively clean, making it approachable even for international travelers who may be new to local restaurants.

Food
This time, I ordered their signature shredded chicken cơm gà.
The rice, lightly colored with turmeric, had a wonderfully fragrant aroma. On top was finely shredded chicken breast that remained moist and tender. While the dish feels light overall, it still delivers plenty of savory flavor. Fresh herbs and pickled vegetables on the side added a refreshing contrast and extra depth to the meal.
The portion size was just right for lunch while traveling, and the dish perfectly captured the idea of “simple yet deeply satisfying.” It’s easy to see why this style of chicken rice has remained so popular for generations.

Final thoughts
If you want to experience authentic Tam Ky-style chicken rice in Da Nang, Cơm gà Cô Hai Tam Kỳ is absolutely worth visiting. Its convenient location and addictive flavors make it an ideal stop during a day of sightseeing. For anyone interested in Vietnamese local food, this is one restaurant you shouldn’t miss.
